Would you like a skirt that fits your waist and hips correctly? We have the answer! Learn to make the perfect, pretty and versatile skirt tailor made for your shape and size.
Tutor: Alison Warner
Make your own stunning A-line skirt, which can be made time and time again in a variety of different fabrics. In this masterclass you will learn how to understand a pattern, sew facings, insert a zip and how to adapt the pattern for different hem lengths and fabrics. You must be able to thread a sewing machine and do basic stitching.
The topics we aim to cover are:
Cutting out the fabric correctly
Marking the pattern with darts and notches
How to sew darts professionally
Insert a Concealed Zip*
How to attach a waist facing
Professional looking hems
*Concealed Zip - this is a zip that has the teeth on the underside so is invisible from the front of the garment
1.50m (115cm wide) or 90cm (150cm wide) of dressmaking fabric cotton, medium weight or similar weight (this makes a knee length skirt bring more if you wish a longer length)
8 inch concealed zip
1 reels of thread to match
We will provide Vilene facing
NB. To help us with preparation of patterns in advance of the class please email your waist and hip measurement (taken with a tape measure around the fullest parts of the hip.) Also the measurement from your back waist to the length you wish your skirt to be (measure a favourite skirt if this is easier).
We have sewing machines for your use, but if you would like to bring your own please advise at the time of booking.
Materials are available to purchase in store.
Tea, coffee and delicious cake are included, but for this lesson you will also need to bring a pack lunch.
